We are honoring the often-overlooked contributions of childcare providers, early childhood teachers, and preschool staff, recognizing not only their educational impact but their trauma-informed care and vital role in resilience-building for children facing ACEs.

The Nurturing Heart Award

Celebrates an individual who demonstrates exceptional compassion, empathy, and skill in providing emotional support through trauma-informed care. Recognizes those who create safe, trusting environments where others feel seen, valued, and empowered to heal and grow.

Criteria:

• Consistently applies trauma-informed practices in daily interactions

• Demonstrates deep empathy, patience, and active listening

• Builds strong, trusting relationships that foster emotional safety

• Advocates for the well-being of others in challenging circumstances

• Serves as a role model for compassion and resilience in their community


The Little Steps, Big Impact Award

Honors an educator who creates transformative learning experiences that spark curiosity, build confidence, and inspire lasting growth. Celebrates the power of small, intentional moments that lead to meaningful, life-changing outcomes for students.

Criteria:

• Designs engaging, innovative, and inclusive learning experiences

• Demonstrates measurable impact on student growth and achievement

• Inspires a love for learning through creativity and passion

• Fosters a positive, supportive classroom culture

• Encourages and celebrates progress, no matter how small


The Guardian of Childhood Award

Recognizes an individual who champions the rights of young children through advocacy, systemic change, and community empowerment. This award honors those who address barriers, influence policy, and provide training or support systems that protect and nurture childhood.

Criteria:

• Advocates for policies that advance equity, safety, and access to quality early education

• Leads or participates in initiatives that create systemic improvements for children and families

• Provides impactful training or resources to educators, parents, and community stakeholders

• Demonstrates measurable influence on laws, policies, or community practices

• Acts as a steadfast voice for protecting the innocence, rights, and well-being of young children


The Resilience Builder Award

Honors individuals who address ACEs head-on by fostering protective environments and equipping children with the skills and support needed to thrive. Recognizes those who actively reduce risk factors while increasing resilience in young learners.

Criteria:

• Implements trauma-informed strategies that mitigate the impact of ACEs

• Creates safe, consistent, and nurturing spaces that encourage emotional healing

• Integrates resilience-building activities into daily routines and learning experiences

• Engages families and communities in supporting children’s long-term well-being

• Demonstrates measurable improvement in children’s ability to adapt and cope with challenges


The Faithful Foundation Award

Honors those whose steady presence, wisdom, and passion have shaped the lives of children, families, and fellow educators for generations.

Criteria:

• Minimum of 20 years of service in early education

• Demonstrates consistent excellence and commitment to the field

• Serves as a mentor and role model for colleagues and emerging educators

• Positively impacts the lives of children and families over time

• Leaves a lasting legacy through contributions to the school or community


The Family Champion Award

Recognizes an individual who goes far beyond classroom walls to strengthen families, ensuring that parents and caregivers are supported, equipped, and empowered to nurture their children’s growth.

Criteria:

• Advocates for family needs within the education system and community

• Provides direct support to families facing challenges such as housing, food insecurity, or mental health needs

• Builds trusting, long-term relationships that foster stability and empowerment

• Connects families to relevant resources, services, and community programs

• Demonstrates a measurable positive impact on family well-being and engagement


The Bridge Builder Award

Honors a social worker or family support advocate who strengthens communities by connecting families to vital resources and creating pathways to stability.

The Connector Award

The Master Mentor Award

Celebrates an educator who models evidence-based practices and fosters a culture of growth, supporting peers and inspiring excellence.

The Helping Hands Award

The Heart of the Table Award

Recognizes individuals who nourish more than just meals, fostering trust and care through mealtime.

Criteria:

• Adapts thoughtfully to food insecurity and dietary requirements

• Builds trusting relationships through kindness and attentiveness

• Creates a welcoming, inclusive mealtime environment

The Guardian of the Environment Award

Honors individuals who maintain clean, safe, and welcoming spaces where children can thrive.

Criteria:

• Maintains high standards of cleanliness, safety, and organization

• Proactively addresses environmental needs to support well-being

• Demonstrates reliability in creating a welcoming atmosphere

• Enhances the quality of the environment beyond routine duties

• Positively impacts the daily experience and safety of children and staff


The Family First Award

Celebrates individuals who build strong bridges between home and school.

Criteria:

• Actively engages and communicates with families

• Builds trusting, collaborative relationships with parents and caregivers

• Empowers families to participate in their child’s learning

• Creates inclusive practices that honor diverse backgrounds

• Demonstrates lasting positive impact on family involvement and child development


The Welcome with Purpose Award

Honors the individual who ensures every child and family is seen, valued, and guided with care from the very first step.

Criteria:

• Designs and manages a welcoming, organized, and trauma-informed enrollment process

• Provides special support to families navigating ACEs or special needs

• Ensures accurate, compassionate communication during transitions into the program

• Collaborates with educators to help children adjust successfully

• Serves as the first point of trust for new families entering the community


The Guardian Gatekeeper Award

Honors an individual whose dedication ensures the safety and security of young learners.

Criteria:

• Maintains a safe and secure environment through vigilance

• Builds a warm, welcoming atmosphere for children and families

• Responds proactively to potential safety concerns

• Collaborates with staff and families to uphold security standards

• Commits to the physical and emotional safety of every child


The Anchor of the Day Award

Recognizes the front-line administrator who keeps daily operations running smoothly.

Criteria:

• Demonstrates exceptional organizational and multitasking skills under pressure

• Approaches challenges with patience, kindness, and positivity

• Creates a welcoming, supportive environment for staff, families, and children

• Serves as a reliable, calm presence during busy or stressful moments

• Goes above and beyond to ensure smooth daily operations


Overall Best Child Care Provider in Passaic County

To be considered for this award, each nominated program must ensure that a minimum of 5 staff members representing their center are registered and attend The Early Childhood Conference on October 11th and the Awards Breakfast on November 1st. This requirement reflects our commitment to celebrating providers who demonstrate strong staff engagement, teamwork and community presence

• 5 – Exceptional

• 4 – Strong

• 3 – Adequate

• 2 – Needs Improvement

• 1 – Limited Evidence

Maximum Total Points: 50

*Nominee must score at least 35 points to qualify for consideration as an award recipient.


1. Application Quality & Presentation (0–10 points)

• Application is complete, professional, and submitted according to guidelines.

• Clear, well-written responses that highlight achievements.

• Includes all required supporting materials (bio, photo, documentation).


2. Application Deadline Compliance (0–5 points)

• Submitted on time → 5 points

• Submitted late with notice → 3 points

• Submitted after deadline/no notice → 0 points


3. Parent & Community Engagement / Voting (0–10 points)

• Actively encourages parent and community participation in voting.

• Evidence of strong support and testimonials from families.

• Demonstrates meaningful parent partnership.


4. Advertisement & Promotion (0–10 points)

• Effectively shares nomination through social media, flyers, or community outlets.

• Promotes the awards process positively and professionally.

• Encourages awareness of early childhood education in the community.


5. Professional Commitment & Impact (0–10 points)

• Demonstrates dedication to children, families, and early learning excellence.

• Evidence of positive contributions in the classroom and community.

• Recognized as a role model or leader in the field.
